I am a self-taught colored pencil artist and a recent graduate of Pratt Institute. My work began by mimicking realism but gradually evolved into a more surrealist style over the years. As my ideas developed and the scale of my work expanded, breaking the square frame became a more natural choice. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with collaging my colored pencil drawings, layering them to challenge dimensions and explore texture. By pasting hand-drawn cutouts on top of my colored pencil images, I contrast the two-dimensional space I typically create, while playing with color and proportions.
Attending Pratt offered me new perspectives that helped refine my style. When creating photo-realistic work, I was told it lacked enough of “me.” This feedback profoundly influenced my approach, leading to the intuitive patterns that now define each piece and shape the worlds I create in my drawings.
